Are your kids eating as healthy as they should be? Are they at a healthy weight? For the first time, The Biggest Loser is challenging America to tackle childhood obesity. To do this, they have partnered with Dr. Joanna Dolgoff, Child Obesity Specialist and Author of Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right. Dr. Joanna has been working closely with Biingo, Sunny and Lindsay, both in on and off camera. In fact, the kids on the show are following her Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right plan. Dr. Joanna has been working closely with Biingo, Sunny and Lindsay, both in on and off camera. Dr. Joanna is a licensed pediatrician who has witnessed the effects of childhood obesity firsthand. Growing concerned with the increasing number of overweight children in her practice, she thought “Somebody has to help these kids!”
So, in 2008, she left her job, spent months conducting extensive research and created the Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right child nutrition plan. Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right tackles the growing problem of childhood obesity with a creative and fun approach. The plan allows kids to get to (or stay at) a healthy weight while still letting them eat foods they love. Foods are divided into color categories. Green Light (Go!) foods are the healthiest. Yellow Light (Slow!) foods are moderately healthy. Red Light (Uh Oh!) foods are the least healthy foods. Using colors instead calories helps kids understand the nutritional value of foods without becoming calorie-obsessed. Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right can be used for weight loss or simply to teach kids healthy eating habits.
